Changes to Our Experience

We’re dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of safety, reliability, and flexibility for all our passengers. To that end, we’ve made some changes to our service to keep you and your loved ones safe while you travel.

We appreciate your understanding, and please know that your safety, and that of our team, continues to guide our decisions around crafting the right experience based on the current environment.

Please review all the updates below before you book your travel with us.

C&J customers are required to wear a face mask, or appropriate cloth face covering over their nose and mouth throughout their travel, aligning with best practice guidelines from the CDC. Plastic face shields may be used in addition to a mask but are not approved mask replacements. Masks or face coverings should be secured to the head with ties or ear loops and should fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face to ensure proper fit. Any mask with an exhaust valve is not approved as an acceptable face mask for customers traveling on any C&J bus.

If a Customer is unable to wear a face covering for any reason (even a verifiable medical condition), we regret that we are unable to transport the Customer at this time, due to safety risk of asymptomatic COVID-19 transmission by Customers without face coverings. In other words, because of public health guidance recognizing the important role of face coverings in preventing the transmission of COVID-19, C&J Bus Lines will temporarily refuse to transport any passenger who is unable to wear a mask even if the Customer has a verifiable medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask.

Children under the age two are exempt from the mask requirement.

  Permitted Masks:

  • Disposable surgical or medical masks
  • Cloth masks with tightly woven fabric (2 or 3 ply masks are recommended)
  • Valve-free respirator masks (N95 or KN95)
  • Fabric masks with a clear plastic window
  • Gaiters with two layers (single layer gaiters should be doubled over)
  • Plastic face shields or goggles may be worn in addition to a mask but are not approved mask replacements

Masks Not Permitted:

  • Any mask with an exhaust valve
  • Masks with slits, punctures or holes
  • Bandanas, scarves, ski masks, and balaclavas
  • Novel and battery-operated masks that do not meet the specifications of the permitted masks listed above

To reduce the spread of germs, C&J will no longer accept ID’s as collateral for northbound Boston travel. All passengers must have a valid ticket to board the coach. Tickets must be purchased in advance of travel, either online or at one of our facilities in Portsmouth, NH or Seabrook, NH in order to board the coach.

Please know – The following C&J locations do not operate a ticket counter are Logan Airport and NYC. If you do not have a ticket, you must purchase your tickets online on your phone while you wait for the coach.

Scheduled to travel but don’t feel 100%? We ask that you reschedule your trip to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you. Once you’re feeling better, we’ll be happy to welcome you onboard.

To reduce the risk of transmitting germs, we have eliminated valet parking services. There is free parking available at our Portsmouth terminal and parking at our Seabrook terminal is $2/day. Parking at all locations is self-service. Please allow extra time to park your vehicle upon arrival.

Our buses are equipped with state-of-the-art air filtration systems that help reduce the spread of airborne pathogens.

C&J has enhanced cleaning frequency. Commonly used surfaces in stations such as door handles, counter tops, seating areas and kiosks are cleaned with EPA-registered disinfectants. Our buses are also rigorously cleaned after each trip.

Our terminals have all been outfitted with sanitizing stations which we strongly encourage our customers and employees to use regularly.

We have temporarily removed amenities such as bottled water, coffee, and bagels in order to decrease the spread of germs.

We have implemented self-service ticket kiosks at our Portsmouth, Seabrook, and South Station terminals to reduce contact between customers and employees. That said, we always recommend using mobile ticketing.

We’ve made it easy for your travels to be almost entirely touch-free. Riders can book, board, and check their bus status all from their mobile devices. See all the ways C&J makes your travel experience more convenient and contact-free, learn more.

We know flexibility is important when traveling, especially now, and we have extended our ticketing policies to help our riders.

Boston Expirations Extended

We have extended our expiration date on all Logan Airport tickets, so now they are valid anytime for two years from the purchase date. South Station tickets are valid anytime within 1 year of the purchase date.

No Change fees for NYC tickets

We have eliminated change fees for NYC tickets. If you are unable to make your originally scheduled trip, contact us to change your trip at no additional cost to you! Itinerary changes must be made in advance of your trip’s departure.

C&J’s Dover Terminal will reopen on a limited basis as part of the service reintroduction. Dover services will be limited to five daily roundtrips to Boston South-Station only.

Logan Airport service will not be available from the Dover Terminal at this time. “We’re not there yet” says Jalbert. “Reintroducing service to Dover through the addition of direct South Station routes is the first step towards expanding options from that location.”  

All other riders should plan to use the Portsmouth, NH terminal located at 185 Grafton Drive in Portsmouth or our Seabrook, NH terminal located at 13 Batchelder Road in Seabrook.

Current Dover tickets will be honored for travel in Portsmouth or Seabrook.

Our Newburyport location will remain closed.
