New York City Travel Guide – Visiting Chelsea

Mar 28, 2019

Each month, C&J Bus Lines wants to bring our riders the inside details on a different NYC neighborhood. This month’s New York City Travel Guide highlights Chelsea, Manhattan. Home to the Highline, countless art galleries, museums, and stunning architecture, Chelsea is truly a hidden gem in the city. Located just a few blocks from C&J’s terminal at Port Authority, Chelsea is easily accessible and has perfect activities for a weekend getaway in NYC.

See the City From Above

The High Line, which is a converted elevated freight line, is a beautiful public space that has a whole host of things to do. Every Saturday this winter (through the end of April) they offer a guided walking tour where visitors will learn more about the history of the High Line. You can always count on seeing plenty of art during your visit and maybe even a live performance. If you’re feeling a little hungry, stop by Santina for fresh pasta dishes or a Caprese sandwich. During the summer months, the High Line also has an assortment of food vendors so you can snack while you walk. We recommend the High Line for the unique perspective it offers of the neighborhood.

Visit (Hundreds of) Art Galleries

If you’re looking to escape the chill of winter, you can spend all day inside of the nearly 200 art galleries that call the neighborhood home. Chelsea is one of the world’s premier contemporary art destinations, so if you love wandering through colorful and imaginative galleries, this is the place for you!

Dance the Night Away

The Joyce Theater in Chelsea is known for its exceptional and mesmerizing contemporary dance performances. See one of many rotating dance companies from all over the world perform this spring, including American Ballet Theater and Australian Dance Theater. You can even sign up to take a Master Class to learn alongside the pros!

Eat a Delicious Meal

The Chelsea Market is home to restaurants, bakeries, artisanal foods, liquor stores, and much more. The giant building takes up an entire city block and has more than 35 vendors. You can truly sample the many flavors of New York here! Warm up with a steamy bowl of noodles at the aptly named Very Fresh Noodles, grab a veggie-packed roll at Beyond Sushi, and satisfy your sweet tooth with a donut from Doughnuttery. Don’t forget to pick up a present for a loved one at Li-Lac Chocolates. You definitely won’t walk away from this destination hungry.

Spend a weekend in Chelsea and soak in everything this amazing neighborhood has to offer!
