What to Do With 24 Hours In New York City

Mar 15, 2018

If you’re riding with C&J for a quick business trip into New York City, we insist that you try to at least get a glimpse of Manhattan. Only there for 24 hours? No problem.

We’ve picked out some timeless must-see and must-taste highlights that are easy to get to and don’t take up too much of your precious time.

Morning

We’ll be blunt about this being a priority: you can’t leave New York without having a New York City bagel. If you roll into Port Authority, you might as well trek up to H&H Midtown Bagels East. Just do it, no questions asked. After your bagel, head over to the Guggenheim Museum to check out the current art exhibits and stroll down the ramp of the iconic Frank Lloyd Wright Building.

Once you’ve satisfied your inner artist, move on to the history, culture, and literature hidden away in the stacks of the New York Public Library. Gawk at the stunning architecture of the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building—more commonly referred to as the main branch—and browse the thousands of magazines in the Periodicals Room. Step outside and witness—or partake in—all of the activities going on in Bryant Park no matter the season.

Now it’s time for some light exercise. Go ahead and walk the High Line, an elevated park built on an old freight line that runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street. Walk off your bagel while also seeing the sights. Maybe even grab a quick cup of coffee from local roaster Apes & Peacocks at their brick and mortar cafe Underline Coffee located under High Line Park on 20th Street.

Afternoon and Evening

With all that walking, you’ll have worked up an appetite by noon. They say to never leave the city without getting a decent slice, so you might want to plan on taking a nice stroll down Bleecker Street until you see a pizza sign.

If pizza isn’t your thing, Greenwich Village is home to plenty of delicious restaurants. Check out Hao Noodle for noodles, dumplings, and tea. Not in the mood for something that leisurely? Grab a table at Caliente Cab and settle in for some guac and margaritas as the afternoon flies by.

Need to take your mind off of business for a little? Catch a show at the legendary Comedy Cellar on MacDougal Street or hit up Madison Square Garden for a Knicks or Rangers game, or to catch a concert featuring some of the biggest acts in the country.

Hungry again? We understand, believe us. Peruse the stands and satisfy your cravings at Gotham West Market. If you’re too antsy to go searching for your dinner, bite into a juicy burger at 5 Napkin Burger and indulge in their new Happy Hour from 10:00 p.m until close.
