Top New Year’s Eve Events in NYC, Boston and Portsmouth

Looking for New Year’s Plans? You’ve come to the right place.

There are hundreds of things to do for New Year’s Eve, but to help you get started we’ve narrowed down our favorite (and did we mention FREE!) events in Boston, New York City and Portsmouth, NH. And as a double whammy, we can’t think of an easier way to get there than riding a C&J bus.

Boston, MA

First Night

For over 40 years, Boston’s First night has been the city’s signature NYE event. This event is free and open to all. Entertainment and special attractions will be focused in Copley Square, and the Boston Common.

Events include ice sculptures, fireworks, musical performances and more! So what exactly can you expect at First Night 2017? Here’s the full lineup of events to help you celebrate all day long.

New York City, NY

Watch the ball drop in Times Square

If you’re looking for the quintessential New Year’s Eve celebration in NYC, then Times Square is where the party’s at!

You’ll want to arrive at Times Square between 3 and 5 p.m. for the best views of the legendary New Year’s Eve Ball (our recommendations: are to view from 43rd to 50th Street, Broadway, or Seventh Avenue through 59th Street). The Annual New Year’s Eve celebration is free and open to all. Be sure to dress in warm layers and bring water. And remember, no bags or backpacks allowed.

The event includes a series of different performances, this years by Gavin DeGraw and Rachel Platten and culminates in a confetti drop and fireworks display unlike any you’ve ever experienced. Imagine more than one ton of colorful confetti raining down at the stroke of midnight….WOW!

Portsmouth, NH

First Night

Portsmouth has joined the First Night community and has been offering a similar style event to Boston since 1986. Stroll the historic streets of downtown and take in the sights…and sounds! There will be fireworks, star gazing, street dancing, music and more!

With both outdoor and indoor events, there is fun for the whole family. All the outdoor events are free to the public. For access to the indoor events you must purchase a first night button. All proceeds from the buttons support Pro Portsmouth, a local non-profit who organizes and funds the event. Buttons can be purchased online or at local retailers.
