Four Broadway Musicals You Don’t Want to Miss This Fall

Sep 19, 2019

Are you in search of a great way to spend a day with your family? Take a trip into New York City to see a Broadway musical! From classics we’ve known and loved since childhood to fantastic new productions, Broadway offers something that everyone in your family is bound to love. Sing along to Aladdin, laugh at Mean Girls’ one-liners, tap your feet to West Side Story, or relive the nostalgia of Little Shop of Horrors. No matter which show you see, these Broadway musicals will leave you humming their tunes for days (or weeks) afterwards.

Aladdin: Everyone’s Childhood Favorite

If you grew up singing A Whole New World and wishing you had a flying carpet, then Aladdin is a must-see this fall. The show is completely dazzling to watch and perfectly captures the charm and magic of the original Disney movie. You’ll be stunned by the gorgeous costumes, lively performances, and the colorful sets help the performers tell the tale of Aladdin. This show has proved so popular that it’s actually been running since 2014! Get your tickets today to witness the magic for yourself.

Mean Girls: Inspiring Laughs Since 2004

Geared toward older teens and adults, Mean Girls the musical is based off the immensely popular 2004 movie written by Tina Fey. If you watched (and loved) the movie, then mark your calendar to see this new Broadway musical! Sara Holdren from New York Magazine wrote, “Hilarious! A smart, splashy new musical with immense energy and a wicked sense of humor. It’s witty, worldly and wise!” But be warned–your face may hurt from all the laughing you’ll do during the show.

West Side Story: A Classic, Revived

When West Side Story first premiered in movie theaters in 1961, it was an instant hit. Crowds fell in love with Tony and Maria, the young protagonists caught in the middle of a vicious gang rivalry in 1950’s New York City. Based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story is an unforgettable tale of love that engages all ages. The revival of the musical is set to premier in early 2020, so be sure to buy advance tickets so you don’t miss this wildly popular show.

Little Shop of Horrors: Wacky and Hilarious

Did you grow up loving the cult-classic film Little Shop of Horrors? So did we. The 1986 film has finally been adapted for Broadway and is scheduled to premier in October of 2019. Starring Jonathan Groff (who you’ll recognize from Glee or Mindhunter), this musical brings the weird and completely eccentric movie to life on stage! Get your tickets and follow the story of Seymour and his man-eating plant before the show closes in January.

If one of these shows sounds like it floats your boat, then you’ll need to start planning your trip to New York City as soon as possible! All of these musicals are in theaters in NYC’s Broadway district, so grab a bite to eat before or after the show at local eatery Joe Allen—we recommend their pressed Cuban pork sandwich or a late-night tostada.
