Memorial Day Celebration in NYC

Five Ideas for a Memorable Memorial Day Weekend in NYC

Summer is nearly here, and what better way to kick it off than with a weekend full of fun Memorial Day events in New York City? Grab a few friends and hop on a C&J bus out of Dover, Portsmouth, New Hampshire or Tewksbury, Massachusetts and relax on the way to NYC. Once you’ve arrived safely at our terminal in Port Authority, there’s no shortage of exciting parades, fantastic art exhibits, and other events to celebrate the holiday. Make sure you pack some comfortable shoes!

Take in a Ball Game

For many of us, summer = baseball season. While you’re in NYC, why not take the opportunity to see the Yankees play at Yankee Stadium? Even Red Sox fans have to admit there’s something special about this iconic park in the Bronx. Enjoy a classic ballpark hotdog and a cold beer while you watch the Yankees take on the Padres on May 27th. Buy your tickets before they sell out!

Celebrate Fleet Week at the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum

Fleet Week in NYC is an annual celebration of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. All events on the pier are free to visitors, and there are some fantastic opportunities to tour visiting ships and watch sailors participate in demonstrations and friendly competitions. This is an exciting way to spend an afternoon with the whole family!

Check Out the Washington Square Park Outdoor Art Exhibit

This annual art show is truly a feast for the eyes. See famous painters and talented sculptors alike come together to display their work along the sidewalks on East 13th Street. Stroll up and down through the vendors and enjoy the summer sunshine. Now in its 89th year, the Washington Square Park Outdoor Art Exhibit runs from May 25th to 27th. Find more details and a map of vendors as their website is updated for 2019!

Attend the Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade

Looking for a little more pizzazz? Hop on the subway and head to Brooklyn for the 152nd annual Memorial Day parade. This is a fantastic way to see more of the city while also commemorating the many brave veterans that have served this country. Be sure to get there bright and early. The parade starts at 9:30 a.m. When you’re done, head up the street to Campania for mouth-watering coal-fired pizza for an authentic taste of NYC.

Enjoy a Late-Night Snack at the Bronx Night Market

Located just a short subway ride outside of Manhattan, this popular nighttime food market is located at Fordham Plaza in the Bronx. It’s free to enter and has several dates throughout the summer, with one on May 25th. There’s music and over 40 vendors representing global foods and beverages. Come early and make sure you bring an appetite!

Ring in the start of summer with an unforgettable weekend in New York City! There are plenty of events to keep you and your friends busy from morning to night. Luckily, you can rest on your way to and from the city when you ride with C&J. Our buses have plenty of legroom and amenities to make your ride a total breeze. Plan your Memorial Day trip today!
