5 New York Summer Must Do Activities

Summer is a great time to visit New York City. Everywhere you turn, something exciting is happening. From outdoor festivities and concerts, to sporting events, and more; we thought we’d help narrow down the choices and came up with a list of the 5 quintessential New York summer activities.

The one-stop foodie destination, with eats from over 100 local vendors and attracting 20,000+ attendees each weekend. Smorgasburg is the largest weekly open-air food market in America and is located in Brooklyn and open every Saturday and Sunday from April through October. Take in the surrounding arts and culture while sampling some of the latest food crazes or some refreshing spins on summer classics (churro ice cream sandwich anyone?) Trust us, we’ve been here and it’s awesome.

Pride Week

Every June, hundreds of thousands of people celebrate the city’s vibrant LGBTQ community with NYC Pride. The week-long celebration kicks off on June 21, offering events and activities for all ages, with the main event The March, happening on June 26th as more than 450 organizations and floats make their way down 5th Avenue towards Greenwich Village. View the parade route here. Looking for information on the week-long activities, click here.

Free Outdoor Concerts

NYC offers hundreds of free music, theater, and comedy events throughout the summer. From Eric Church, to Elvis Costello, opera, jazz, and punk shows, there is something for everyone to enjoy and best of yet, a lot of them all free to attend. Take advantage of a number of free festivals throughout the city such as SummerStage and Celebrate Brooklyn. Check out the list of all summer concerts in NYC.

4th of July Fireworks

The Macy’s fireworks display is the nation’s largest Independence Day showing. This year over 60,000 firework shells will launch along the East River in Midtown, coordinated to a patriotic score from the West Point Band and Glee Club. The events are set to start at approximately 9:25 pm. For more information on the 41st annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, check out

US Open

From August 29th – September 11th the US Open will be taking place at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens. Since 1987, the US Open has been the fourth and final tennis major comprising the Grand Slam each year. The main tournament consists of five event championships: men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles, with additional tournaments for senior, junior, and wheelchair players.
